Football Playoffs set

Three valley teams will see at least one weekend of postseason play. Stevensville locked up second place in the Southwest A last weekend along with a home game advantage this weekend. They will take on Whitefish, the No. 3 seed from the Northwest A conference. That game will be XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
Stevensville finished the regular season with a record of 3-2 in conference play and 6-2 overall. The Yellowjackets lost, 18-15, to Corvallis in their final game of league play. The Blue Devils scored 11 points before the ‘Jackets scored. Brandon Butt called his own number on a one-yard keeper for the Blue Devil’s first touchdown. Jason Mills scored on the two-point conversion. Turner Zsupik kicked a 34-yard field goal in the second quarter to cushion the Corvallis lead. Tyler Berner scored on a 22-yard scamper for the final Blue Devil touchdown and Zsupnik kicked the PAT. Stevensville scored in the third quarter when Tyler Gavlak ran five yards for the score. Caleb Vance kicked the PAT. Vance scored on a 1-yard plunge for the final touchdown.
Hamilton will also make an appearance in the playoffs. The Broncs, who are the No. 3 seed in the Southwest A, will travel to Libby and take on the No. 2 seed from the Northwest A. That game will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Hamilton’s finished the season with a record of 3-2 and 4-5 overall.
Hamilton defeated Anaconda, 40-20, in their final home game. Josh Bauder hit Tyler Murray for three touchdowns on passes of 20 yards, 30 yards and 31 yards. Michael Bienusa had two touchdowns on runs of three yards and two yards. Bauder also had an eight-yard scoring run. Seth Mason kicked four of six PATs.
Florence lost to Loyola, 27-7, and with the loss, lost their first place standing and fell into a three-way tie with Loyola and Ronan. Because they lost by more than 18 points, the Falcons were dropped to third place and had to hope they would receive a wildcard to advance to the playoffs.
The Falcons got on the board first when Zac Newbary his Dylan Reynolds from nine yards out for a touchdown. The PAT was good and Florence had the lead. But the Rams were fired up. After a few adjustments on the line on both team’s part, Loyola got down to business and cleared the way for Bo Hughes to run seven yards for the six points. Hughes then his John Hansson for the two-point conversion as the half ended.
Loyola intercepted the Falcon pass on Florence’s first possession of the third quarter and Hughes went to work. He scored on a seven-yard run but there was a penalty on the PAT attempt. After being pushed back five yards, Loyola opted to go for two points but failed. Florence still had a chance but they had to find a way to contain Hughes. Although Florence had a couple more chances, incomplete passes and two more touchdowns by Hughes put the game out of reach for Florence.
“I think they out played us and out coached us both,” said Florence coach Terry Maki. “They are a good team. Hughes really stepped up and beat us single handedly.”
Florence finished the season with a record 3-1 in conference play and 6-2 overall. They received the wildcard berth and will play Bigfork in first round action. That game will be Saturday at 1 pm.
Victor lost to Arlee in a high scoring game, 54-50. Kyle Ball had five touchdowns and Chris Morozumi and Corey Deering each had one. Victor finished their season in the middle of the Western C conference with a record of 4-5. Darby finished with a 1-8 record in the Western C conference.
