The Hamilton boys defeated Stevensville, 4-1, in Hamilton’s first conference game of the season. The Broncs came out strongly in the first half and scored all of their goals in that half. Stevensville also scored in that half and then held Hamilton scoreless.
“It was a tough game,” said Stevensville coach Ralph Serrette. “We had some injuries we had to handle and get through the game.”
Hamilton got on the board in the 11th minute when Daymon Halsted had an unassisted goal. They scored an ‘own’ goal in the 16th minute. Stevensville’s Wes Porter hit the back of the net in the 24th minute but then it was all Hamilton. Nash Johnson had a goal at 36 minutes and Dace Moerkerke finished off the Hamilton scoring at 37 minutes.
“I really liked how we started the game,” said Hamilton’s coach, Randy Lint. “We haven’t played in like 11 days.” He went on to say practices have been limited due to the smoke and he felt his team was a bit out of shape.
“We played the game the way we anted to play at the end of the season which is short passes on the ground,” he concluded.
But even while Hamilton was dominating, Stevensville was adapting. They came out fighting in the second half and held Hamilton scoreless. “I was happy we held them scoreless in the second half. They know what it takes to win,” concluded Serrette.
The Hamilton girls came away with a 9-0 win over Stevensville. Senior Casey Shifflett had a hat trick. She scored at 13 minutes, 66 minutes off of a Nina Orr assist and again at 72 minutes. Also scoring for Hamilton were Karissa Pfantz who had two goals, Kara Weese, Sami Kratofil who also had two goals and Bri Huggans.
