The Stevensville Yellowjackets continued their march over Northwestern A teams. They made the journey to Columbia Falls on Friday. After giving up the first two touchdowns of the game to the Wildcats, the ‘Jackets rebounded and came back to win, 34-14.
Josh Haynes caught a 15-yard pass from Caleb Vance to open the scoring run. Vance called his own number for the next touchdown when he pushed through from yards out. Josh Lords was Vance’s next target. Lords caught a 32-yard pass for the six points. Still mixing it up, the Yellowjackets went back to a ground game for the next touchdown when Tyler Gavlak raced in from 24 yards out. Haynes caught a 36-yard pass for the final score. Vance kicked three PATs and completed 16 of 36 passes for 237 yards.
Hamilton lost to Polson, 41-0.
Florence topped Thompson Falls in another non-conference game, 37-14. Zac Newbary had three touchdown passes and a field goal to lead the Falcons. Newbary hit Riley Phillips from 29 yards out for their first score. He connected with Philips in the third quarter for 21-yard pass as well. Newbary hit Aaron Ward from nine yards out in the second quarter and then had another three yard scoring pass in that quarter. His field goal was from 33 yards out.
Victor had an unbelievable comeback in Darby on Saturday. After trailing by as many 27 points, the Pirates came back in the fourth quarter and scored five touchdowns and a safety to defeat Darby, 42-33. Darby had a good run going for most of the game, executing in the air and on the ground. Colton Johnston had an eight-yard romp to begin the Tiger scoring. Joe Caicedo then took the ball in from four yards out and again later in the third quarter form five yards out. His final touchdown was a 63-yard race around the Victor line for the score. Dylan Knox caught a 52-yard pass from Jeremy Campbell for the final Tiger score.
Victor scored in the third quarter when Kyle Ball caught a 29-yard pass from Kurt Manely but the run failed on the two-point conversion. Corey Deering also caught a pass from Manely in the third quarter from seven yards out. Manely pushed his way through for a one-yard touchdown. Chris Morozumi had an eight yard run and a two yard run for the final two Pirate scores. Tyler Scheffer sacked Campbell for the safety.
