Preschool story time
Preschoolers are invited to meet in the children’s corner of the Bitterroot Public Library on Wednesday, August 17 to enjoy “Let’s Eat: Foods Around the World ” and hear books read by Jan Killam. Clothing Drive distribution
Distribution of school clothes collected in the latest clothing drive will be Thursday, August 18 and Friday, August 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 402 Church Street, Stevensville. Stevi school facility committee
The Stevensville School Board of Trustees Facility Committee will meet on Thursday, August 18 at 10 a.m. in the Swank work trailer.
Stevi free swim
As a thank you to the community for supporting the renovation of the Stevensville Pool, the Stevensville Community Foundation will host free swim at the Stevensville Pool on Thursday, August 18, from 1 to 5 p.m.. During this time all guests will swim for free. The pool will then close at 5 p.m. for an invitation-only party for donors. Due to this event, evening swim will be canceled on Thursday, August 18.
Back Country Horsemen
Bitter Root Back Country Horsemen host their last outdoor meeting of the summer on Thursday, August 18, at the Coyote Coulee Trailhead, located up Lost Horse Road. Potluck dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the general meeting starts at 7 p.m. Kent Niles of Niles Enterprises in Darby will speak to members and guests about horse trailer safety and maintenance. North Valley Pachyderm Club
The North Valley Pachyderm Club will meet Friday, August 19, at noon at The Frontier Café, Hwy 93 in Stevensville. Guest speaker will be Professor Rob Natelson talking about the constitution. The North Valley Pachyderm Club meets the first and third Friday of each month from noon to 1 p.m. at the Frontier Cafe. The North Valley Pachyderm Club is an educational arm of the Republican Party. All are welcome.
Golden Age Picnic
It’s picnic time again at the Golden Age Club on Friday, August 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the hall, 727 S. Fifth, Hamilton. The club will furnish chicken, rolls and coffee; bring a dish to share and your own table service. Dancing follows the meal. On August 27, the floor will be cleaned and polished so there will be no exercise classes the following week; however, the regular Friday night dance will be held September 2.

Veterans Stand Down
The 6th Annual Veterans Stand Down sponsored by the Bitterroot Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will be held on Saturday, August 20 at the National Guard Armory, 910 W. Main Street Hamilton. It starts at 9 a.m. with a color guard by American Legion Post 94 and lasts until 3 p.m. The event is focused on veterans and their families; however, the general public is welcome to attend and benefit from this Stand Down.
Admission to the Stand Down is free and services provided included VA medical health care enrollment, free medical screening, free dental screening, free haircuts, free lunch, free blood pressure monitoring, free surplus clothing and blankets, free counseling, free job service counseling, free pet services, benefits assistant, a homeless veteran representative, Xsports4vets, short-term housing, referral to other supportive services and special guest singer Robert C. Perry. And, most importantly, the Stand Down provides an opportunity for veterans to interact with and learn from other veterans (camaraderie) and the general public. Pet services for vets at Stand Down
Montana Companion Animal Network (MTCAN), Fox Hollow Animal Project and the Bitter Root Humane Association are pleased to join forces with the organizers of the 6th Annual Veterans Stand Down, on Saturday, August 20 to provide pet services to veterans on the event day. MTCAN will be on site with pet food samples, treats, resource information and many wonderful, healthy pets ready for adoption; Bitter Root Humane Association will be offering reduced special adoption fees that day at their shelter if a veteran adopts a “new buddy”! Shear Delight will be on hand to do nail clippings and light grooming and certificates for free services from Fox Hollow Animal Project will be issued to veterans whose animals need vaccinations and/or spay/neuter surgeries. A Clothing Giveaway event will be held Saturday, August 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the King’s Christian Church, 9830 Valley Grove Drive, Lolo. ‘Kids in the Garden’
For the past nine years, the Hamilton Garden Club and its community partners have been mentoring children with hands-on activities, games, crafts, storytelling, dance and music about the great outdoors. “Kids in the Garden,” a free, fun-filled, family event will be held Saturday, August 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Daly Mansion, 251 Eastside Hwy, Hamilton. Folks are encouraged to bring one non-perishable food item for the Garden Club’s food drive collection. “Kids in the Garden” is a free celebration of learning in a garden party setting, where children, parents and grandparents discover the importance of gardening, conservation and our connections to the natural world. Garden club activities include: The Tea House, where you select from garden fresh or dried herbs to make your own tea to take home and sample refreshing peppermint iced tea; The Kids Seed Company, design your own seed packet and collect seed from the garden; Walk The Pollinator Path, learning about flying and crawling garden helpers and find them hiding here; Potato Harvest, it’s a veggie treasure hunt; Flower Pounding, create beautiful artwork from blossoms in the garden. Prizes will be awarded for the winners of the ever-popular Garden Jeopardy for both children and adults. More activities will be offering by various local organizations. Model train exhibit
On Saturday, August 20, the Bitterroot Model Railroaders will be running their model trains in the Kohl Building, right behind Valley Drug in Stevensville. Stop in and learn about a fascinating hobby. The trains will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring the kids!
Pranayama Workshop
A free Pranayama Workshop with Swami Ken will be held Saturday, August 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Yoga in the Root, 4071 Eastside Highway, Stevensville. Fall registration for Stevensville School District #2 will be held August 23-25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in all three offices. Requirements for entrance are copies of birth certificates and current immunization records. Freshman Orientation will be August 29 at 7 p.m. in the High School gym.
Republican Women’s Club
The Ravalli County Republican Women’s Club will hold its monthly meeting and lunch on Tuesday, August 23, at 11:30 a.m. at BJ’s Restaurant in Hamilton. Guest speakers will be County Commissioners Suzy Foss and Matt Kanenwisher and State Representative Ed Greef. Ravalli County Republican Women meet the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Our Savior Preschool open house
Our Savior Lutheran Preschool, 184 Pine Hollow Road, Stevensville, will hold a fall open house on Tuesday, August 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. where students, parents and teachers meet to prepare for the lifelong adventure of learning. The preschool program is designed to be solid preparation for kindergarten, emphasizing socialization and basic skills development for boys and girls, ages three through five. The preschool features age-appropriate hands-on learning, low student-to-teacher ratios, reasonable fees, and a Christ-centered approach. The four-year-old class meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Three-year-old classes are held Tuesday and Thursday at the same time period. ‘Restoring Courage Rally’
“Restoring Courage Rally” in support of Israel, will be held Wednesday, August 24 at the Rocky Mountain Grange, Hwy 93 in Hamilton. Join others to view a live feed on Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Courage Rally” from Jerusalem and show your support for Israel. The event in Israel is taking place just steps from the Western Wall and the Temple Mount and calls for unity among all faiths, and will honor Israelis who have displayed courage in their struggle for survival and peace. There is no charge for the Hamilton event. Doors open at 6:30 with the live feed starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.
