It was a pitchers duel with a trip to the state tournament on the line last Thursday when Hamilton was host to Corvallis in softball. With Rebecka Hood pitching for Hamilton and Ashley Johnson in that position for Corvallis, the two teams battled for seven innings without a run being scored. Sound defense from both teams kept runners from scoring and sent the game into extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, Tegan Elliot got on base and Gianna Schrock laid down a bunt to mover Elliot. Alex Ewing stepped up and knocked a double which scored Schrock. Both coach Rich Borden of Corvallis and coach Melodee Mildenberger of Hamilton agreed that both teams played an outstanding game.
Corvallis will play Columbia Falls in their opening game of the state tournament in Miles City at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
Florence also advanced to the Class B state tournament in Glasgow. They will play Shepherd at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
