Phil Perez, a coach of the Bitterroot Bucs Legion Baseball team, was killed in an early Sunday morning traffic accident on Eastside Highway. Perez was well known on the diamond, his love of the game evident. He began playing T Ball and worked his way through the ranks as he grew older. He has been one of the coaches for the Bitterroot Bucs for the last two years.
The Bucs issued a statement saying they are currently planning on playing both of their double-header games this weekend in Florence. They will take on Dillon at 1pm on Saturday, May 7. They will host Deer Lodge at 1pm on Sunday.
The Bucs split their games with the Kalispell A Lakers on Sunday. They won the first game, 11-3. Billy Hanna was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, 4 walks and four hits in five innings. He also had three hits including a double. Zac Blackstun and a triple and two RBIs. The Bucs lost, 10-0, in the second game. Blackstun was the starting pitcher and took the loss. Corbin Newbary came in to relieve Blackstun in the third inning and Kyle Anderson came in to pitch in the fourth inning.
