Missoula – Ruth I. (Hull) Bay, 99, of Missoula died Saturday, June 30, 20I8 at her home. She was born January 14, 1919 in Corvallis, Montana to Inez (Whitesitt) Hull and L. C. “Cal” Hull. Ruth was raised on the Hull farm two miles east of Corvallis on Willow Creek Road. She graduated from Corvallis High School in 1937, then attended Kinman Business College in Spokane, Washington.
On June 1, 1940, Ruth married Russell Bay in Kuna, Idaho. They made their home in Drummond, Montana where Russ taught school. After the start of WWII they moved to Vancouver, Washington, where they both worked in the shipyards, and in 1946 returned to Corvallis, Montana where they lived until 1959. Russ took a teaching position in Missoula and they bought a home on two acres in Orchard Homeswhere Ruth has resided for the last 59 years.
Ruth was a committed, traditional homemaker, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for her family, extended family and friends from far and near. She was a facilitator of fun. Grandchildren and their friends looked forward to the afternoons of “park hopping” around Missoula. Ruth enjoyed gardening and tending her bounteous flowers outside, and the geraniums and African violets inside. Documenting family events and travels through photographs was her life-long hobby. She received her first camera as a gift in 1935 when she was in high school and she took photos until film became obsolete!
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; two grandchildren, Kevin Bay and Jana Cerdena; and a daughter-in-law, Janet Bay. She is survived by her three children, Howard Bay, Calvin (Sandi) Bay and Carol (Glenn) Junkert; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a niece and three nephews.
A graveside service was held at the Corvallis Cemetery on Saturday, July 7. The family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of Missoula, 1900 S. Reserve Street, Missoula MT 59801. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.whitesuttfuneralhome.com.
