The Ravalli County Commissioners have been considering the purchase of the historic building that formerly housed the Dowling Funeral Home, which has been on the market for several years. The home was built by Marcus Daly in 1892 and sits on property adjacent to the County’s Courthouse and detention center. In fact, County Commissioner Ray Hawk had not only viewed the property but prepared a buy/sell agreement for $600,000 that was to be considered at a meeting scheduled for possible decision on June 20th. That meeting was cancelled.
According to Hawk, he believed he had been given “permission or concurrence” from the other commissioners to go ahead and get a viewing of the property as a precursor to making an offer.
He said he did that and also had a buy/sell agreement drawn up for the requested amount of $600,000. But he did that without talking to the other commissioners and it turns out they were not all willing to make an offer for that amount. Hawk said at that point it did not seem like they should go forward with the meeting and it was cancelled.
