The Victor Pirates took their game to White Sulphur Springs on Saturday for a first round Class C playoff game. White Sulpher Springs was the No. 2 seed from the South while Victor is the No. 3 team from the West.
Victor spotted White Sulphur 12 points before they got going and actually trailed at the half. The Pirates caught fire in the second half and went on to win, 38-20.
White Sulphur got on the scoreboard first when Walker Gruszie caught a 27-yard pass from Derek Heggen. They scored again with Whitley West had a one-yard run.
And then Victor’s Matt Kittel went to work. He called his own number for a one-yard rumble for six points. Just after a White Sulphur Springs TD by Jory Fisher, Kittel went to the air and hit Nate Bishop from 50 yards out for the touchdown. Kittel, who threw for 163 yards, completed 12 of 26 passes in the wind. Brady Tuttle also caught a 10-yard pass for six. Terrell Sherrill, who had a five-yard scoring run earlier, made it to the end zone for the two-point conversion. Kittel scored twice more on the ground with runs of three yards and 18 yards. He finished with 100 yards on 14 carries.
Victor, who has a 7-2 record, will travel to Belt this Saturday for a quarterfinal match up. Belt’s only loss was to Great Falls Central, 36-38. Victor has only lost to Charlo and Superior and both of those teams also advanced.
