Sierra Gideon

The seventh annual Bitterroot Classic Triathlon was held Saturday. The race featured a 750-yard swim in the Bitterroot Aquatic Center’s pool, a 20K bike ride up and around Tammany Loop east of Hamilton and a 5K run on the east edge of Hamilton. More than 200 contestants took part in the event, which is a fundraiser. This year, the proceeds will be split between Emma’s House, a children’s advocacy center, and S.A.F. E. (Supporters of Abuse Free Environments.)

Shown above is Sierra Gideon as she leaves the pool and heads to the bike ride. Gideon, who is a sophomore at Hamilton, finished the swim in 15:46, the bike ride in 48:46 and the run in 22:05 for a total time of 1:26:37. She was first in her age group. Jesse Carnes was the overall winner with a total time of 59:34. Sue Huse was the overall women’s winner with a time of 1:02:57. Jean Schurman photo
