Commissioners applauded

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to the commissioners that have the moral character to reject funding for a Family Planning clinic. One of the many issues I have with Family Planning is the way the government tries to control the way we raise our families. There are many parents (my wife and I included) who teach their children that premarital sex is immoral. Yes, teenagers make mistakes, and it would be unrealistic to believe that they will always follow parental counsel, but that’s not the point here.  The point is that the government contradicts this parental counsel by saying, in effect, that premarital sex might not be the best choice, but it is ok if you protect yourself. Isn’t that the message? I would resent any organization that, behind my back, contradicted the moral/religious counsel I gave my children. Why should the government’s authority supercede a parents’ God-given right to raise a child according to core moral/religious beliefs? I am not a member of your community, but I would be proud to live in a community like yours that has commissioners with the backbone to stand up to “Big Brother.”
